E-commerce businesses, big and small, are reaping the rewards of an innovative omnichannel approach, as demonstrated by the winners of the recent Internet Retailing Awards in the United Kingdom.
The Awards, which celebrate the best of the UK’s e-commerce and multichannel ventures, also showed the sheer variety in the retail industry, with large internationals recognised alongside burgeoning startups in categories as far-ranging as customer service, mobile, and B2B.
British department store House of Fraser was one big winner of the night, triumphing in the Innovation, Mobile, and Judges’ Award categories - a great example of an established bricks-and-mortar retailer that understands the need for a strong e-commerce offering to complement its physical presence.
Fashion retailer ASOS.com won the International Award, highlighting its growing cross-border profile in Europe, Asia, USA, and Australia, proving that great customer service and a well-considered logistical operation is key to overseas success.
But while it is easy to assume that the big fashion and consumer goods retailers are dominating the e-commerce industry, some other winners are disrupting the market, revealing how consumers increasingly want convenience in every area of their lives. These include transport (innovative app Uber won the Service Retail Award) and food (meal delivery service Hello Fresh won the Market Entry Award).
Ian Jindal, Internet Retailing’s editor, said: “A great range of companies has been honoured this evening. This goes a long way towards showcasing the sheer strength and vitality of our sector.”
