Jamaica – Update on hurricane

16 July, 2024

The designated operator of Jamaica, Jamaica Post, wishes to inform other Union member countries and their designated operators that mail operations (outbound, inbound and domestic processing and delivery), response to customer service inquiries and IT-related activities (sending of EDI updates) have now been partially restored. Full restoration is not yet possible as the national power grid is not able to provide a sustained power supply following the passage of Hurricane Beryl.

Impassable and flooded road networks have been cleared, allowing for accessibility to communities. However, utilities (electricity, water and Internet connectivity) may not be restored for up to a month in some localities.  Consequently, approximately 40% of delivery offices island-wide will observe modified opening hours (closing earlier than usual) until 30 August 2024.

Consequently, delays in all postal activities are to be expected up to the end of August.
