Jamaica – Disruption to ICT infrastructure

20 August, 2021

Update

Jamaica Post wishes to inform other Union member countries and their designated operators that it has been experiencing Internet connectivity problems since 6.30 (local time) on Thursday, 19 August 2021, owing to disruption to ICT infrastructure caused by Tropical Storm Grace.

As a result, the international mail processing centre and critical sorting and delivery hubs throughout the postal network are unable to conduct mail operations requiring on-time transmission of EDI messages or other electronic updates, or to ensure a prompt response to inquiries submitted via online customer care systems.

As of midnight (local time) on Thursday, 19 August 2021, the situation had not been rectified and quality of service will thus continue to be affected. Jamaica Post is therefore declaring a force majeure event, in view of the uncertainty as to when operations will be restored.

Jamaica Post thanks all Union member countries and their designated operators for their understanding. It will provide further updates via EmIS.
