Portugal – Extension of lockdown

20 January, 2021

Update

CTT Correios de Portugal, would like to inform other Union member countries and their designated operators that, in response to a significant number of new COVID-19 infections, the Portuguese government has both extended and reinforced the general lockdown in place throughout Portugal at least until 30 January 2021. Further measures are expected from the Portuguese government before the end of the month.

During the lockdown, CTT Correios de Portugal will continue to provide postal services but will operate with a reduced workforce and subject to the new restrictions and safety guidelines. The processing and delivery of all types of inbound and outbound mail (letter-post, parcel-post and EMS items) will continue to be affected, and CTT Correios de Portugal is unable to guarantee compliance with the agreed standards.

Given the current uncertainty with regards to the international transport network, CTT Correios de Portugal maintains the suspension of transit à découvert and closed transit operations for both letter mail and parcels.

Therefore, the force majeure situation declared through previous EmIS messages remains in place until further notice.

CTT Correios de Portugal wishes to thank all Union member countries and their designated operators for their understanding. It will send updated information via EmIS once the situation has returned to normal.
