Gibraltar - Transport arrangements

The designated operator of the United Kingdom Overseas Territory of Gibraltar, the Royal Gibraltar Post Office, wishes to inform Union member countries and their designated operators of an important change affecting the conveyance of international mail to and from Gibraltar.   Following the implementation of the agreement between the European Union and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in respect of Gibraltar, which is expected to enter into provisional application on 15 July 2026, commercial air transport operating to and from Gibraltar will no longer be permitted to carry commercial freight, including postal mail. Only passengers' personal luggage and limited aircraft operational supplies may be transported on commercial flights.   Therefore, with effect from 15 July 2026:   * all inbound and outbound international letter-post, parcel-post and EMS items addressed to or originating from Gibraltar will be conveyed via land transport through Spain; * postal items will no longer be transported by air directly to or from Gibraltar; This change affects the mode of transport only. Postal services will continue to operate normally. Designated operators are requested to update their operational procedures and transport planning accordingly. While the Royal Gibraltar Post Office will endeavour to minimize any operational impact, designated operators should be aware that routeing via land transport may result in changes to transportation schedules and transit times during the implementation period.   Further operational updates will be communicated through via EmIS should additional information become available.   The Royal Gibraltar Post Office apologizes for the delay in issuing this communication and appreciates the continued cooperation and understanding of all Union member countries and their designated operators.
