Canada – Update on measures to minimize the spread of COVID-19

26 February, 2021

Update

The designated operator of Canada, Canada Post, asks us to update other Union member countries and their designated operators on the current status of operations at its Toronto office of exchange, located in the Gateway East processing plant. Following guidance by the regional health authority, Canada Post had temporarily closed one of three shifts at Gateway East in January to prevent further spread of the COVID-19 virus. Following a period of mandatory quarantine and voluntary on-site testing directed by local public health authorities, processing operations at Gateway East have now resumed the regular three-shift daily schedule. While operations are progressing in terms of management of volumes, delays in the processing of mail items are still to be expected, as Canada Post continues with contingency plans to deal with higher than normal volumes. Canada Post has been operating with safety protocols in place since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, and will continue to follow public health officials' expert guidance and recommendations. Canada Post thanks all Union member countries and their designated operators for their continued support and understanding.
