Jamaica – Fire at central sorting office

Jamaica Post, wishes to inform other Union member countries and their designated operators that the central sorting office experienced a fire outbreak on Monday, 23 October 2023 at approximately 09.00 local time, which resulted in minor damage to a section of the sorting facility.

Although the fire was contained relatively quickly by the fire services, evacuated staff were sent home in the light of the emanating smoke, which entered adjoining sections of the facility.  Consequently, all mail operations, ICT and customer service support functions ceased for the day.

It is anticipated that further time will be required for the smoke to be fully expelled from the facility, as a result of which only limited mail operations will resume on Tuesday, 24 October.
