Sri Lanka - New measures to limit the spread of COVID-19

16 August, 2021

Update

The designated operator of Sri Lanka, the Department of Posts, wishes to inform all other Union member countries and their designated operators that, owing to the rapid spread of COVID-19, the Government of Sri Lanka has again imposed island-wide strict travel restrictions with immediate effect until further notice. All mail items sent to Sri Lanka will be processed and delivered in compliance with restrictions and safety guidelines imposed by the government in order to prevent the further spread of the pandemic.

The office of exchange and all other mail sorting centres are operating on a limited number of days with a reduced workforce. Most of the administrative functions will continue to be performed through telework depending on the availability of resources.

International airports remain open for cargo flights and a minimal number of passenger flights. All inbound mail will be transported to the Colombo office of exchange, operating with the limited workforce available.

The processing and delivery of all inbound mail and the transportation of outbound mail will be heavily impacted by the current situation. Therefore, the Department of Posts is unable to guarantee compliance with the agreed delivery standards for all mail categories.

The Department of Posts thanks all Union member countries and their designated operators for their understanding. It will update them via EmIS once the situation has returned to normal.
