Sri Lanka – Lifting of measures to limit the spread of COVID-19

21 June, 2021

Update

The designated operator of Sri Lanka, the Department of Posts, wishes to inform all other Union member countries and their designated operators that the Government of Sri Lanka has temporarily lifted the island-wide strict travel restrictions with effect from 21 June 2021. However, the authorities are still monitoring the situation carefully. All mail items sent to Sri Lanka will be processed and delivered in compliance with restrictions and safety guidelines imposed by the government in order to prevent the further spread of the pandemic.

The office of exchange and all other mail sorting centres are operating with a reduced workforce. Most of the administrative functions will continue to be performed through telework depending on the availability of resources.

International airports remain open for limited passenger/cargo flights, and outbound mail transport is still restricted to the limited number of destinations with available air carriers.

These new measures will continue to impact delivery standards for all categories of mail. The Department of Posts is, therefore, unable to guarantee compliance with the agreed delivery standards for all mail categories.

The Department of Posts thanks all Union member countries and their designated operators for their understanding.
