Sri Lanka – Lifting of national lockdown

05 October, 2021

Update

Sri Lanka Department of Posts, wishes to inform other Union member countries and their designated operators that the Government of Sri Lanka has temporarily lifted the national lockdown, with effect from 1 October 2021.

However, the restrictions on travel between provinces remain in place and the authorities are continuing to monitor the situation carefully.

All mail items sent to Sri Lanka will be processed and delivered in compliance with the government-imposed restrictions and safety guidelines. The office of exchange and all other mail processing centres are operating with a reduced workforce. Most administrative functions will continue to be performed remotely, depending on the availability of resources. International airports are open to a restricted number of passenger/cargo flights, and the transportation of outbound mail remains limited to those destinations with available air carriers.

These measures will continue to have an impact on delivery standards for all categories of mail. Therefore, the Department of Posts is unable to guarantee compliance with the agreed delivery standards for all mail categories and with the quality link to remuneration for letter-post services.

The Department of Posts thanks all Union member countries and their designated operators for their understanding.
